At ‘BABO’ we genuinely want to see people with mental health issues and disabilities flourish and realise their full potential.
Our Mission
We aim to re-connect disadvantaged people with their local communities by assisting them to re-engage with the education system, employment and to develop independent living skills. We can also assist in redirecting participants from harmful activity to positive activity. We liaise with other services to lead individuals to the specific help they need, integrating them into a therapeutic environment to build stronger communities and families.
“Seeing a generation of disadvantaged people who have self-worth is not a fairytale. They just need to be believed in.”
— Luke Whatman, FOUNDER
Our Approach
"The adventures are always awesome and the mentors make it really fun!"
- YOUTH PARTICIPANT
We firmly believe that our core values at BABO positively support participants to identify and achieve their purpose in life. It's not a conventional or boring approach that we take, the individuals have plenty of fun on the journey!
Targeted Mental Health and Wellbeing
At BABO we work alongside all kinds of individuals with mental health and behavioural needs.
Mental Health Needs
Early trauma can manifest later as negative behaviour in school, and there is often a blurred line between behavioural and mental health needs. We offer support across the entire continuum - for children with lower level needs through to highly complex needs. We work with non-attenders, and children, youth and adults struggling with a variety of mental health disorders, including: conduct disorder, anxiety, depression, attachment disorders, eating disorders, ADHD, self-harm and post-traumatic stress. Our staff have experience in dealing with many behaviours including confronting behaviours such as violent outbursts and aggression.
Behavioural needs
We also work with individuals whose behaviour is causing concern in schools/place of education. Young persons’ may be disruptive or destructive, or just struggling in other ways that inhibit the person from engaging and continue with learning. Our team of mental health workers hold one-to-one interventions which can help participants with these challenging emotional needs.
